Programs That Can Cut What You Pay
Medicare premiums and copays come out of the same monthly check that pays for rent, food and electricity. The Garden State runs cost-help programs that are generous by national standards, but many eligible people never apply.
We review your circumstances, explain which programs might fit and show how each one interacts with the coverage you choose.

We do not offer every plan available in your area. Any information we provide is limited to those plans we do offer in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE to get information on all of your options.
Medicare Savings Programs
Run by the state with Medicaid funds, these programs help people within certain income and asset limits pay their Medicare costs.
- QMB covers Part A and B premiums plus most deductibles and coinsurance
- SLMB covers the Part B premium
- QI covers the Part B premium as long as yearly funding lasts
Just having the Part B premium paid saves more than $2,400 a year at 2026 rates. Qualifying for one of these programs brings Extra Help along with it, no second application needed.
Extra Help With Drug Costs
This federal program reduces Part D premiums, deductibles and copays. Applying through Social Security is free, and approval can create opportunities to change drug plans during the year.
PAAD and Senior Gold
PAAD (short for Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled) caps the pharmacy copay at a low set amount for qualifying residents 65 or older and for people receiving disability benefits. Senior Gold helps those whose income is somewhat over the PAAD limit.
Both programs work alongside Part D, so your drug plan should coordinate smoothly with them. We consider that in every drug plan comparison.
Atlantic County Support
Atlantic County's Division of Intergenerational Services helps seniors and caregivers apply for Part B premium savings, PAAD and Senior Gold, and connects them with meals, transportation and in-home help. The county link is in the resources below.

Will applying lower my Social Security check?
No. These programs reduce health costs and have no effect on your Social Security benefit.
Once I qualify, is it permanent?
Typically not. Most programs require renewal, and answering those forms on time keeps your benefits active.
Can you submit the application for me?
We walk you through the steps and tell you where to send it. Approval rests with New Jersey or Social Security.
